Frenchman's Reef & Morningstar Marriott Beach Resort
Newlyweds will be among the first to experience the newly renovated lobby, furniture, bedding and bathrooms at Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. $25 million in improvements are in progress and are expected to be completed in time for the winter 2006-2007 season.
Honeymooners love the resort's prime location on a high point of land on the southern tip of St. Thomas; it affords spectacular views overlooking the Caribbean, the yacht harbor with its abundance of small launches, sleek sailboats and majestic cruise ships, as well as the lush hillsides serving as the backdrop to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas' major city. The destination's one-flight accessibility lures those who are annoyed by stopovers. After a non-stop or direct flight into St. Thomas, there is a short six-mile taxi ride from the airport to the pink-and-white tropical resort. The largest hotel in the U.S. Virgin Islands, it was voted Best Resort Hotel by readers of Caribbean Travel & Life (May 2005 issue).
Frenchman's Reef & Morningstar Marriott Beach Resort encompasses nearly 500 guest rooms and suites. The eight-story main building has shops, restaurants, bars, meeting rooms, an expansive pool deck (there are three swimming pools on property) and bi-level suites and premium rooms with views of the harbor and the sea beyond. The hotel's three story Morning Star buildings can be reached via a landscaped path filled with tropical flora facing a private white-sand beach. Many honeymooners appreciate the in-room color, cable/satellite TV that the resort provides.

In addition to tennis courts and golf on an 18-hole course, the Reef Health Club offers a variety of spa services. The hotel's tour desk can arrange many different activities, including day sails, scuba diving and snorkeling. There are always cabs on site to transport couples around the island or to one of the inter-island ferries. Car rental agencies are a good option for island sightseeing, and many guests use the water taxi service that departs from the hotel and hops across the harbor to the narrow boutique and care lined streets in downtown Charlotte Amalie, a great destination for duty-free shopping. The hotel is an excellent home base for couples who decide to explore other nearby islands. Some of the Caribbean's most exclusive resorts (Peter Island Resorts, Caneel Bay on St. John) or most exotic hideaways (Jost Van Dyke) are a short ferry ride away and make great day destinations for beach, lunch and spa services. |
