Disney World Wedding

Tying the Knot at Disney World

Options for fairy tale themed weddings

Some 2,000 couples tie the knot at Walt Disney World Resort each year, with the majority choosing to wed in Disney's classy, non-denominational wedding pavilion.

Disney's wedding operation offers a few extraordinary themed weddings that occur inside one of the resort's four theme parks. For non-themed weddings, try Disney's Intimate Weddings Packages. Cost is $2,450 for the wedding itself, without lodging or tickets. Couples must book at least a four-night stay to be eligible.

Magic Kingdom: You've heard of fairy tale weddings before, but never like the Cinderella-themed one at Magic Kingdom. Decked out in a Cinderella gown, the bride arrives by glass coach, complete with costumed footmen and six white ponies. Trumpeters herald her arrival in song. The couple exchanges vows in the Rose Garden, just off Cinderella's Castle, and then head for a reception at Cinderella's Royal Table, located inside the castle. The event can end with a firework display over the castle. Cost is upwards of $80,000 for a reception with about 50 guests. One drawback: The wedding and reception cannot take place until the park closes (typically around 10 p.m.).

MGM Studios: At MGM, the bride-as-movie starlet is ferried by motorcade down Hollywood Boulevard to an area with actors playing the roles of screaming fans and autograph hounds. At the Mann's Chinese Theatre replica, the couple has an "official" handprint ceremony. A reception follows in the theater. Cost is about $36,000 based on 100 guests. Again, wedding and reception cannot begin until after the park closes.

Disney's Animal Kingdom: Couples typically wed at the Disney Wedding Pavilion and then adjourn to the park for a sunset safari with their guests. Dinner follow at Tusker House, the park's African-themed restaurant, where an African band plays. Cost is about $35,000 with about 100 guests.

Epcot Center: Ceremonies can be held anywhere in the World Showcase before the park opens at 9 a.m.; China, France and Italy are the most popular. Receptions can be held inside the park at The Living Seas attraction. Typically, receptions are held at Disney's Boardwalk Resort or Disney's Yacht Club Resort. In some cases, receptions are held at the park in time for the evening Illuminations light and firework display. Cost begins at $10,000.

Pavilion Weddings:
Located just south of the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Wedding Pavilion comes across as a regular upscale wedding venue - chapel and private dressing rooms for the bridal party included - with none of the themed elements for which Disney is famous.

Intimate wedding parties are 20 or less (10 is standard). Intimate Wedding locations are the Wedding Pavilion, Sea Breeze Point at Disney's BoardWalk Resort, the Wedding Gazebo at Disney's Yacht Club Resort, Sunset Pointe at Disney's Polynesian Resort, and Sunrise Terrace at Disney's Wilderness Lodge.

Your wedding website: Launched once you have booked your wedding, your wedding website will detail your event and provide important information for your guests. After your special day, it will display all your pictures and enable you and your guests to order prints online.
