Delaware beach vacations is an ideal summer honeymoon vacation spot. Beautiful beaches and seaside towns invite you to explore Delaware's Atlantic coast.

You can lounge on white-sand beaches or enjoy your favorite watersport. Walk hand-in-hand on the beaches in search of seashells or sit under a boardwalk awning and sip a fresh-squeezed lemonade.

The state's Atlantic coast extends about 25 miles from the southern edge of Delaware Bay down to the Maryland border. It's not a long stretch of shoreline, but it has a lot to offer.

Delaware's unspoiled Atlantic beaches are rated among the cleanest in the nation. Public beaches can be found in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island. 12 miles of the 25 miles of coastal beaches is located within State Parks. Other beaches along the Delaware Bay are Slaughter Beach near Milford and Broadkill Beach near Milton.

Places to Visit in Southern Delaware

Rehoboth Beach is the most cosmopolitan of Delaware's coast towns. You can stretch out on the sand and soak up the sun, hit the water and waves or stroll the attraction packed boardwalk. When you done at the beach you can shop at the Tanger Outlets which offers discount prices and no sales tax.

Dewey Beach has beautiful oceanfront and bayside beaches. It's a popular seaside community and a prime spot for watersports. Every Tuesday night through labor day there are free movies on the beach and Wednesday nights you can enjoy the bonfires.

Cape Henlopen State Park has gentle bay waters on one side of the park and on the other side the ocean waves attract surf lovers. Away from the water's edge you can climb a WWII observation tower, bike the three-mile loop around the park or cast you line from the bayside fishing pier.

Milton is a showcase for heritage architecture. This town on the Broadkill River is filled with styles that range from 17th-century Colonial to Victorian. visit the ARt Deco theater or be awed by the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge's 10,000 acres of coastal wetlands.

Lewes is the oldest town in Delaware. You can take a self-guided walking tour of the historic district, stop in at the Zwaanendael Museum, then head downtown to look around the antique stores or grab a bite to eat. If the fresh salt water air beckons you hop on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and go for a budget-priced sea cruise.

The Quiet Resorts. Encompassing the towns of Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island, these communities are really low key. Relax on the beach and then visit the Fenwick Island Lighthouse or the admission free DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum. Finish off the day with a dazzling sunset and dinner in a waterfront restaurant.

Head inland to Nassau Valley Vineyard and spend an afternoon among the grapevines at this award-winning winery. Take a free tasting tour, picnic on a shady lawn and check out the museum that traces the 8,000 year history of the fruit of the vine.
