Cancun Vacation
The Mayan Gold Coast
More than 3 million visitors a year travel to Cancun to enjoy its beautiful shores and myriad attractions. Built by the Mexican government in the 1970s, Cancun was created to be a top Mexican Resort Destination, and more than 25 years later, it is, in fact, all that and more.
Cancun is beyond a resort area with fantastic beaches; it's also the gateway to the Mayan World. Many of Mexico's most well-known and popular archeological sites are within a two-to three-hour drive. It is also close to the Yucatan's fabulous natural parks, including the home of the second-longest coral reef ecosystem in the world. Cancun is a shopper's paradise, and dining choices and nightlife abound. It is a destination that is made for almost any type of traveler, including families, romance-seekers, and adventure and ecotourists.
Kukulcan Boulevard is the main street in the Hotel Zone, where you will find a choice of beachfront resorts. Many of these spectacular resorts are home to world-class spas and golf courses. Cancun hotels feature every imaginable guest service, guaranteeing comfort and convenience. In addition to being welcoming and responsive, most of the service personnel speak English. The world’s leading hotel brands are represented in Cancun, from the major names in affordable accommodations to the very best in luxury. Styles range from sleek, modern resorts to lush, private villas. (The "hotel zone," which is what most tourists think of as Cancun, is a fourteen mile long, thin island shaped like a "7.")
Cancun Honeymoon
For a Cancun Honeymoon, Cancun's grand hotels aim to please. Many cater to couples and adults only. Private beach fronts, swimming pools, tennis courts, and gym facilities are offered by most. Couples can spread their wings and experience all sorts of land and water sports options as well as eco-explorations, providing an extra dimension to a romantic Cancun vacation. The excitement and glamour of Cancun help to create an exotic mix of romance and fun. For couples seeking that perfect combination, a Cancun honeymoon package offers everything you've dreamed about and more.

A New Cancun
Hurricane Wilma, which hit Cancun in 2005, helped spur a new and better Cancun. A beach-recovery project totaling more than $20 million was completed in April 2006, creating miles of renewed coastline. Many of the properties have undergone major renovations, additions and enhancements. More than 5,000 palm trees, 165,000 plants and 2,500 trees were planted in the Hotel Zone.
The Cancun International Airport is currently adding a second runway and a third terminal. The airport serves 800,000 passengers per month in high season, and intends to add to the 170 daily direct or connecting flights.
Major Property Renovations
Many of Cancun's properties took the opportunity to upgrade and renovate after Hurricane Wilma. They include:
Ritz-Carlton, Cancun underwent a $15 million renovation that included the Casitas restaurant and guest room enhancements, such as 400-thread-count-linens, gourmet espresso machines, rainforest shower heads and additional connecting rooms. All suites now feature 32-inch LCD flat-screen TV's. The fitness center has been upgraded to feature an extensive workout facility. The resort's beach has also been expanded.
Cancun Palace and Sun Palace will open their doors in December with complete renovations. Sun Palace will now be for couples-only. Beach Palace will re-open in February 2007 following its own refurbishment.
A $40 million renovation to the Hilton Cancun Golf & Spa Resort, which reopened in May, touched almost every aspect of the property. Some 150 feet of beach was added, as well as a new lobby and guest reception area and new decor and furniture in guests rooms and suites. The resort's five restaurants and three bars have been renovated, and water supply and safety features have been upgraded. A new fitness center with more than $120,000 in cardio and weight-lifting equipment has been added.
The Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach has been re-designed and has undergone considerable restoration work including a larger beach alongside the hotel and work to the property's Mexican restaurant. Changes to the Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun include renovations to the resort's restaurants, major upgrades to the business center and a redesigned swimming pool.
